I was in my room the other night and
there was a full moon. I was on my phone and the light from my phone was bright
so it lit up the room, my phone’s battery ran out and the light it earlier
radiated was gone this was the moment I fully realised how bright the moon was.
Many times in our lives we are “lit up”
by various things: success in our work/academics, family and friends,
relationships… These things however only give us temporal happiness in the
sense that we are saddened when we lack them, when they are not sufficient or
they are not as we expected.
[John 8:12] “When Jesus spoke again to
the people, he said, ‘I am the
light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but
will have the light of life.’”
“Darkness is in fact simply the absence
of light” – Albert Einstein
Christ is the only eternal light. We
cannot follow Him if we do not see Him when other “lights” in our lives
distract us. The absence of His light in us simply means we are in
darkness.
[John 14:6] “Jesus answered, ‘I am the
way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’”
In
essence we must “turn off” the other “lights” in our lives to make sure that we
are following Christ this is the only way we can appreciate Him in all His
fullness and glory. I do not write this to say we rid ourselves of the things
that make us happy. No Christ placed many things around us to make us happy but
we must allow Him to shine brightly in us.
[1 Corinthians 2:9] “However, as it is
written: ‘No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has
prepared for those who love him’” There is too much to learn and gain when we
live under His guidance-His light we must not let anything “outshine” Him in our
lives at the end it will all run out. NOTHING comes close in comparison with
Christ’s light; He must be the light in you.
