Day 6: Visit to Social services Imenti and Majengo Slums

Today we started at the Social services Imenti, and talked with two members of parliament for that local area. We were told of the progress they have been making so far with regards to the community, the work they do and their own solutions to the problem within the community and minimal budget. They also share their plan of action and success so far towards Kenya's Vision 2030.

After a short stay we headed to the Majengo slums. To walk through and see the various conditions brought back to remembrace all that we take for granted yet to see the joy and sense of community that radiated even still was inspiring.

It was refreshing to see such beauty in the midst of the slums...

Along the way we saw houses that have been in existence for generations and we witnessed a little more of life in the slums...

We saw a local store

A water pump built by earlier missionaries

And as we headed further into the slums we saw more stores and saw more living conditions

Toms were not made for Meru, Kenya>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

After our Tour we ended up at a local Mosque, we were welcomed by the men and women...

The leader of the mosque welcomed us

Pastor P and Mr Dickson addressed the crowd

Fiona carried out a couple of activities with the women, getting them to appreciate one another

Gifts were presented to the governing authority of the slums

After our visit to the slums we headed to Bishop John Ntere's House in the slums, it was very humbling to see where he started from. We were embrace and overwhelmed with love as the family welcomed us with Tea and Chapatti whilst Mr Dickson shared stories of how the Bishop took him into the house when he came back to Kenya...

This is where the Bishop started is ministry many years ago, until it developed into various church for the people in the slums of Majengo and now he heads about 60 branches... It was humbling to hear stories of the Bishop raising the dead under this tree and performing many other miracle the power of God truly has no limits...

The new church developments...

After this the team headed home for a relaxing evening whilst they toured the grounds of Thirri....

The following was extracted from one of the diaries of a cloverleaf missionary....

"Today was such an amazing day... I cannot get over how God has used the Bishop so mightily in the slums. To see a glimpse of is life and his home left most of us speechless. His mum even made the girls sing...
Our visit to the mosque opened my eyes further to the necessity of salvation even in the most remote places. Singing and dancing is something we are welcomed with everywhere Kenyans must truly enjoy it. It was amazing to see such a beautiful building(mosque) the middle of rubble...
I pray that whatever seeds have been sown in the people's lives germinates good fruit...
Hearing about how the leaders worked together and closely with the community within their means was quite interesting many systems we cherish just cannot be implemented here due to lack of resource labour wise and financially. I believe that by the reasoning of us been here alone change will happen according to God's plan..."

See you later, Love and blessing From

I-Go 2013
